United Skates
As America’s last standing roller rinks are threatened with closure, a community joins forces in a racially charged environment to save the underground African-American subculture of roller skating, which has been overlooked by the mainstream for generations – yet has given rise to some of the world's greatest musical talents.
As a part of the Los Angeles unit sound team, we recorded on the re-opening night of a beloved roller rink. Sound considerations included loud music, reverb, and - of course - roller skating.
Recorded on a Sound Device 633 mixer with integrated recorder,
three Sennheiser EW 100 G3 Wireless Lavs, and Sennheiser 416 Shotgun Mic.
Production Sound Mixer - Madison McGaughy
Directed and produced by Dyana Winkler and Tina Brown
